Local transportation with the Oslo Pass

Discover Oslo with the Oslo Pass: Unlimited travel on public transport for up to 72 hours. Use the metro, streetcar, buses, ferry etc.

The Oslo Pass is not only your entry ticket for over 30 sights - it is also your ticket for public transport in Oslo.

You can use unlimited buses, streetcars, subway trains, ferries and local trains within the covered zones. So you can get to all the highlights of the city comfortably and stress-free.

On this page you can find out how you can use local transport with the Oslo Pass and what you should look out for.

These means of transportation are included

With the Oslo Pass you can use all public transport in zones 1, 2, 3, 4V and 4N unlimited and free of charge. This includes:

  • Subways
  • City and regional buses
  • Streetcars
  • Ferries, e.g. to Bygdøy and the islands in the Oslofjord
  • Local trains from Vy (within Ruter-Zone)

The Vy trains can also take you to Gardermoen Airport. Transportation by Flytoget or Flybus is not included.

How to use the City Pass

Your Oslo Pass also serves as a ticket. If you use the digital version, activate the pass in the Oslo Pass app before you use a means of transport for the first time. At ticket inspections, simply show the QR code in the app.

If you have a physical pass, enter the date and time on the back before using it for the first time. Show the pass at a checkpoint, no additional validation is required.

Which zones are covered?

The Oslo Pass covers zones 1 to 4V and 4N. This means you can easily reach all the sights included in the Oslo Pass, as well as many other destinations in and around Oslo.

From the airport to the city center

When you land at Gardermoen Airport (OSL) in Oslo, you will want to get to the city center quickly and easily. Important to know: The Oslo Pass is not valid for the airport express train (Flytoget) or the Flybuses, which you have to pay for separately.

How to still get into the city cheaply

With the Oslo Pass you can use the regular regional trains from Vy as long as your pass is already activated. The journey by regional train from Gardermoen to Oslo Central Station (Oslo S) takes about 20 minutes and is cheaper than the express train.

This is how it works:

  • Purchase and activate your Oslo Pass in advance (e.g. via the app).
  • At the airport, board a regional train on line R10, R11 or L12 in the direction of Oslo.
  • Show your active Oslo Pass at an inspection - this is sufficient as a ticket.

Tip: If you want to activate the Oslo Pass in the city first, buy a separate ticket for the journey from the airport via the Vy app or at the ticket machine.

Note: Torp Sandefjord Airport is outside the zone covered by the Oslo Pass and is therefore not part of the pass.

Leaving the city with the Oslo Pass

With the Oslo Pass you are not only flexible when traveling in the city - you can also use the regional trains of the Vy railroad company in zones 1 to 4V/4N.

You can reach these destinations free of charge with the Oslo Pass:

  • Lillestrøm: Only 10-15 minutes by train from Oslo, Lillestrøm offers cozy cafés, museums and access to nature. Ideal for a half-day excursion.
  • Sandvika: A charming little town west of Oslo with a pretty pedestrian zone, art galleries and access to the Oslofjord.
  • Kolbotn: A small village south of Oslo with beautiful walking paths and a popular swimming lake (Kolbotnvannet) - perfect for sunny days.
  • Bygdøy (accessible by ferry): Even though the Museum Island is part of Oslo, you can easily reach it by public ferry - also included in the Oslo Pass.

By ferry across the Oslo Fjord

With the Oslo Pass you can not only use buses, trains and streetcars - public ferries are also included in the price.

The ferries depart from Aker Brygge pier and take you to several idyllic islands, some of which look like little natural paradises in the middle of the city. Island hopping is particularly worthwhile in summer.

With the Oslo Pass you can use the ferry to Bygdøy as well as the boats to the islands in the Oslofjord, to the Nesodden peninsula and to Drøbak (the latter connection is only available in the summer months).
